Gov Yusuf to submit LG autonomy bill to Kano assembly

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved the transmission of the bill granting full autonomy to the state’s 44 local government councils to the State House of Assembly.
Mr Yusuf said this aims to empower local governments with financial and administrative independence, according to a statement on Friday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.
The governor spoke during the 31st Executive Council meeting, where he approved the transmission of the bill to the assembly.
“The proposed law aims to grant financial and administrative independence to Kano’s 44 local government councils, enabling them to manage resources and execute projects autonomously,” he said.
The governor explained that the autonomy will enable councils to manage resources directly, execute projects without delays, and promote accountability, thereby accelerating grassroots development.
Mr Yusuf believes the reform will deepen democracy in the state. He has directed the bill’s transmission to the State House of Assembly for consideration.
