Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has urged the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to regulate online radio and television platforms to curb the spread of unverified and inflammatory content.

The governor made the call at the Africast 2025 Conference in Lagos, organised by NBC, according to his chief press secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.

Mr Yusuf expressed concern over the misuse of online platforms promoting divisive narratives on religion and politics, threatening peace and national security.

“The unregulated online broadcasting environment breeds misinformation and hate speech on sensitive issues like religion and politics.

“NBC should ensure accountability and ethical standards in digital media,” he said.

Mr Yusuf’s stance aligns with his administration’s push for responsible media practices, digital literacy, and public interest protection in Nigeria’s evolving broadcasting landscape.
