Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has pledged to strengthen preparations and operations for the 2027 Hajj to ensure a seamless pilgrimage.

The governor’s media aide, Dauda Iliya, made this known in a statement on Thursday.

He stated that the governor made the pledge while receiving the report of the 2026 Hajj from the executive chairman of the Borno Hajj Commission, Yakubu Yunus, at the government house, Maiduguri.

The governor commended the commission for the successful conduct of the 2026 Hajj operations and assured that the report would be thoroughly reviewed to consolidate achievements and address identified challenges.

“I am honoured to receive the report of the 2026 Hajj operations. We shall study it carefully, analyse the exercise, and come up with measures to improve future operations,” he said.

Mr Zulum stressed the need for early preparations for the 2027 pilgrimage, noting that immediate planning was necessary to sustain the successes recorded in previous exercises.

He reiterated his administration’s readiness to provide the required support to ensure a hitch-free Hajj, while calling for improved coordination and synergy among members and officials of the commission.

The governor also emphasised the importance of enhancing the welfare and remuneration of commission officials to boost efficiency and service delivery.

Earlier, Mr Yunus described the 2026 Hajj as one of the most successful in the history of Borno, attributing the achievement to the dedication and collective efforts of the commission’s officials.

He thanked the governor for his continued support, particularly in providing quality accommodation for Borno pilgrims in Makkah, as well as facilitating Hadaya and Ihram for them.
