Borno government has approved the release of over N500 million

to pay registration fees for 19 medical students and 93 nursing students for further studies.

The executive secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, Bala Isa, said on Tuesday while announcing the development in Maiduguri.

According to Mr Isa, the 19 medical students are at Suez University of Egypt, and the 93 nursing students are at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) nursing school.

The executive secretary said the scholarship was part of Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration’s commitment to Borno’s 25-year development plan and the 10-year strategic transformation initiative.

Mr Zulum said his administration was committed to sponsoring the students throughout their studies.

The scholarship board boss said the governor had urged the students to be hardworking and to face their studies seriously to justify the government’s effort toward sponsoring their education.

Reacting, a nursing student from UMTH, Abdulazeez Mohammed, thanked the state government for the intervention.

He said, “We are grateful for this intervention, as many of us from poor families were in a dilemma before this major relief came.”
