Government urged to leverage content creators to boost tourism

A tourism expert, Jibola Abati, has called on governments at all levels to partner with travel content creators to accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s tourism sector.
The expert made the appeal on the sidelines of the ongoing 21st Akwaaba African Travel Market on Monday in Lagos.
Mr Abati, the founder of Taste of African Vibes and the Convener of the African Travel Content Creator Conference, described content creators as the foot soldiers of the industry, whose efforts in promoting destinations often go unnoticed.
“Content creators are essential to tourism marketing. Many of them invest their resources in promoting Nigeria. Government support will encourage them to do more,” he observed.
He suggested that governments at all levels should identify content creators who promote tourism and collaborate with them through industry events and social media engagement.
“The support does not have to be about hiring them but providing meaningful partnerships and material incentives that can amplify their work,” he said.
While commending the federal government’s ongoing efforts in promoting tourism, Mr Abati stressed the need for stronger collaboration with content creators to strengthen the nation’s global tourism potential and attract more visitors.
The three-day expo, which commenced on September 14, will end on September 16.
The expo drew participants from tour operators, airlines, tourism boards, and travel agents, with approximately 100 exhibitors from 20 countries.
