Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi has donated N50 million to Command Girls’ Science Secondary School, Goru-Birnin Kebbi, to bolster effective teaching and learning.

Mr Idris announced the donation at the school’s graduation ceremony in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.

He explained that the gesture was necessary to assist the institution in tackling its immediate problems and provide a more conducive environment for the students and teachers.

Mr Idris informed the school authorities that his administration would offer a helping hand in the refurbishment of some of its structures.

” Education is the responsibility for all, not only the government, and the parents will also have to contribute for the benefit of their children,” he said.

Mr Idris lamented the small number of students studying in the school, promising to join hands with the 21 sole administrators of the state to sponsor about 60 students to enrol it to shore up its population.

He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to improve the state’s education sector.

”My administration is giving free education as we have paid for NECO and WAEC and paid N2 billion for the students studying in tertiary institutions.

” We have also paid N723 million for our foreign students in India, Egypt and Cyprus to offset their school fees.

” My administration had invested over N10 billion in the education sector within one year,” he said.

Earlier, the school’s commandant, Maj B. Fatai, expressed gratitude for the physical presence of the governor at the graduation ceremony.

She also expressed optimism that the governor, among other requests of the school, would help mobilise more students from the 21 LGAs to increase its population.

Ms Fatai called on the Commissioners and other government officials to continue to motivate and encourage the educational pursuits of students in the state.
