Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has approved the appointment of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Dalijan as the commandant of the state-owned security outfit ‘Community Protection Guards (CPG)’.

This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau on Sunday by the secretary to the state government, Abubakar Nakwada.

Mr Dalijan served as a commissioner of police in the state between 2023 and 2025 and was later promoted to the rank of AIG in the Police Force.

According to Mr Nakwada, Mr Dalijan’s appointment is a decisive move to further strengthen the security architecture of Zamfara.

“Therefore, Gov. Dauda Lawal has approved the appointment of a retired Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, Dr Muhammad Dalijan, as the new State Commandant of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG).

“The appointment takes immediate effect,” the SSG said.

Similarly, Mr Lawal also directed a comprehensive overhaul of the Community Protection Guards to address all operational and administrative challenges impeding the agency’s optimal performance.

“Dalijan, until his retirement from service in June 2025,  served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Counter-Terrorism at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

“He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (1990), as well as Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Criminology from the University of Abuja, obtained in 2007 and 2018 respectively,” the statement explained.

“Lawal expressed confidence that, as the immediate past CP in Zamfara, the appointee is well-versed in the state’s security challenges and terrain, as well as possesses the requisite capacity to reposition the CPG to effectively deliver on its mandate in line with the rescue agenda of the administration.

“The governor also commended the immediate past Commandant for his selfless service to the state, prayed for his speedy recovery, and reassured him of the government’s continued solidarity and support,” Mr Nakwada added.
