Governor Peter  Mbah of Enugu State on Thursday constituted a seven-man committee to investigate alleged mismanagement and corruption in Enugu State College of Education Technical (ESCET).

Mr Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, said the committee’s terms of reference were to investigate grave allegations of mismanagement and corrupt administrative practices by the management of the institute and its governing council.

He said they would thoroughly investigate the alleged fraud involving Bluetag Technologies, a financial firm contracted to collect fees for the college with unresolved issues of about N84 million.

According to the governor, the committee will ascertain the veracity of an alleged undue recruitment process and probe the subsequent increase in the college’s monthly subvention.

“They are to provide recommendations based on their findings regarding the appropriate measures and actions to address the issues raised in a petition to the government,” Mr Mbah said.

Members of the committee are the Commissioner for Education, Ndubueze Mbah as the chairman, Onuora Okeke as secretary, Obiamaka Egbo, Ikechukwu Ani, Emma Onyeabor, Edmund Ngene, and Larry Oguego as members.

Mr Mbah urged them to do a credible job and make appropriate recommendations.

“So this committee is supposed to dig deep and unravel the issues surrounding all these allegations and provide recommendations based on your findings,” he said.

He added that the committee had two weeks to submit its report.

Responding, Ndubueze Mbah, on behalf of the committee, thanked the governor for finding them worthy of the assignment.
