Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has inaugurated mobile veterinary clinics in the 27 local government areas of the state.

At the inauguration of the mobile clinics in the Garbau area of the Miga Local Government Area on Friday, Mr Namadi said the facilities would provide free veterinary services.

“Healthy cattle are essential to our state’s economy, and this initiative will help us boost livestock and agricultural production.

“The initiative will have a transformative impact on the state’s agrarian economy, especially for the Fulani communities whose livelihoods depend on healthy livestock,” Mr Namadi said.

He outlined the initiative’s key components, including the provision of motorcycles, free veterinary services, and a continuous supply of veterinary drugs to improve livestock health.

“Each local government area will receive five fully equipped motorcycles to support mobile veterinary services,” the governor said.

It was gathered that 235 motorcycles were distributed, in addition to the existing fleet, totalling 535 mobile veterinary clinics across the state.

Furthermore, Mr Namadi stressed that the veterinary staff in each local government will travel to nomadic communities and offer free services.

He said this was to ensure that Fulani herders maintained healthy cattle, which was essential to their way of life and the state’s economy.

Also, the governor tasked the local government councils to ensure a continuous supply of medicines and vaccines to facilitate the programme’s long-term success.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Muttaka Namadi, underscored the current administration’s achievements in agricultural development.

He described the mobile veterinary clinic project as a vital tool that would provide succour to the nomads and the state’s general population.

Some nomads who spoke with journalists expressed gratitude for the initiative, saying it will save them a lot of livestock losses.

Musa Ardo, one of them, said nomads in the state were about to reap the full dividends of democracy of the Namadi administration by this gesture.

Also, Haruna Tukur commended the gesture and appealed to the concerned authorities to sustain the project.
