Mr Wadada said the initiative was for orphans alone in Nasarawa and orphans and the poor in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

Governor Abdullahi Sule has lauded Ahmed Wadada (SDP-Nasarawa West), the founder of Keffi Polo Ranch, for organising a tournament that benefits orphans.

Mr Sule gave the commendation while speaking to journalists after the final match of the 2024 Keffi Polo Ranch Open Tournament for Orphans in Keffi’s local government area of Nasarawa on Sunday.

The final match between Team Malcomines and Team Keffi Ponys ended 3-3, with Team Malcomines emerging champions due to accumulated points gathered in the weeklong annual tournament, which started on June 24.

Mr Sule commended Wadada’s humane gesture, which aimed to generate funds to assist orphans in the state with their needs and help them actualise their dreams in spite of their situation.

He pointed out that Mr Wadada’s gesture was in line with what President Bola Tinubu had always advocated, which was for leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to support and cater to the less privileged and orphans.

The governor pledged to continue to support Mr Wadada and other well-meaning Nigerians who advocate for initiatives to improve the lives of orphans and the less privileged in the state.

In his response, Mr Wadada thanked Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) for supporting the annual event since 2015. He pledged to ensure that proceeds gathered from donations were duly spread across selected orphanages in the state.

“What we do after today’s event is take stock of all the various orphanages and then go to the market and get what we can from the proceeds and give to them.

“Their priorities differ. Some orphanage homes may request food and beverages and, in some cases, clothing. We also take care of the educational pursuits of the orphans in the homes,” he said.

He said the initiative was for orphans alone in Nasarawa and orphans and the poor in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
