Governor Yusuf mourns Sharia chieftain Baba-Ahmed

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed shock over the death of Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, the secretary-general of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria.
Sanusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a condolence message on Tuesday. The governor described the death as a great loss to the Muslim faithful, Nigeria and humanity.
Mr Yusuf described the deceased as a distinguished lawyer, financial expert, Islamic affairs advocate and public intellectual who devoted decades to promoting justice, good governance, religious understanding and societal welfare.
He commended Mr Baba-Ahmed’s leadership of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria, particularly his advocacy on Islam, constitutional rights, justice and national development.
The governor also acknowledged Mr Baba-Ahmed’s contributions to the legal and financial sectors, including his service at the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation and his role in advancing Islamic finance in Nigeria.
He said the deceased would be remembered for his courage, intellectual depth, humility and commitment to justice, fairness and service to humanity.
Mr Yusuf extended condolences to Mr Baba-Ahmed’s family, the Sharia council, Kaduna residents and the Muslim community.
