Governors joining APC hoping 2027 elections will be rigged in their favour: Tambuwal
A former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has said that governors are joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the hope that the 2027 elections will be rigged in their favour.
According to Mr Tambuwal, the recent wave of governors defecting to the ruling party reflects political insecurity rather than improved governance.
Mr Tambuwal (ADC-Sokoto South) made the assertion on Sunday while addressing journalists on the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) state congress, held in Sokoto on Saturday.
“Today, many governors are rushing to join the APC, not because things are getting better, but because they believe the 2027 results will be written in favour of the party,” he said.
The former governor noted that no individual or group can manipulate the outcome of the 2027 general elections, insisting that Nigerians will ultimately decide their leaders.
He dismissed speculations that the 2027 general election results could be written in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that such a move would be impossible.
“Some people believe that the results of the 2027 elections will be written in favour of the APC. But how will that be possible? You cannot write results to claim victory where none exist,” he said.
The lawmaker recalled his past political decisions, stating that he had always stood by his principles.
“This includes when I disagreed with former President Goodluck Jonathan during my tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives, and later with President Muhammadu Buhari while serving as governor,” he explained.
The ex-governor further dismissed claims that the president could use security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to influence election outcomes, insisting that “Nigerians are vigilant and determined. Nigerians are taking note. It is clearly a contest between the government and the people, and the people will prevail In-Sha-Allah.”
Mr Tambuwal also pledged that an ADC-led Federal Government would decisively address insecurity and reposition Nigeria for growth and development.
“We will retire the APC in 2027 at both the national level and in Sokoto State. Nigerians should join the ADC to realise this vision,” he admonished.
He described Sokoto as a stronghold of the party and urged unity among members to achieve their political goals.
The senator also commended party members for their decorum, peaceful conduct, and active participation in the congress.
At the end of the exercise, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu emerged as state chairman, alongside Bello Isiyaku as deputy chairman and Kabiru S. Fulani as secretary.
Others elected include Kabiru Hali (Vice Chairman, Sokoto Central), Abdullahi Bafarawa (Vice Chairman, Sokoto East), and Sadiq Sanyinna (Vice Chairman, Sokoto South), among other officials.
