The wife of the Plateau State governor, Helen Mutfwang, on Tuesday distributed 1,800 bags of rice to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across four local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

Mrs. Mutfwang explained that the rice was donated by BUA Group through the Renewed Hope Initiative of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

“You will all recall that our First Lady visited Jos and donated the sum of N1 billion and 1,800 bags of rice to support victims of attacks in the state,” Mrs. Mutfwang said.

The governor’s wife, who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, special advisers, and wives of government officials to the LGAs, said the rice distribution would go a long way to support displaced families.

She listed the benefiting LGAs as Mangu, Bokkos, Riyom, and Bassa; adding that the chairmen had been given the template for the distribution to ensure fairness and equity.

The distributionsl was carried out in each of the benefiting LGAs by Mrs. Mutfwang, while names and numbers of beneficiaries were recorded for follow-up.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support and thanked both the First Lady and the governor’s wife.

A mother of four from Mangu whose house was burnt down, Joy Timothy, described the distribution as timely, noting that the rice would sustain her family for a long time.

A beneficiary from Riyom, Martha Luka, said she was overjoyed to see the governor’s wife personally handle the distribution.

Another displaced person from Bassa, Lami Sunday, appreciated everyone who came to share in their pain and thanked the government for the support.

Mrs. Mutfwang reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to restoring peace and assured the displaced persons that they would not be forgotten.
