Group hails FG, Lagos for upgrading Epe hospital to FMC
The National Youth Council of Nigeria on Friday lauded the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government for signing a Memorandum of Understanding to transform Epe General Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre.
The NYCN Coordinator, Ibrahim Muibi, during an interview on Friday described the development as a significant step toward improving the healthcare services in Epe.
According to him, the upgrade will have a lasting positive impact on the people of Epe and its environs, by providing access to specialised medical care previously unavailable.
Mr Muibi said, “We are thrilled by this development. The transformation of Epe General Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre is a testament to the commitment of both the state and federal governments to improving healthcare infrastructure.’’
Mr Muibi stated that NYCN was glad to know that the services that would be available in FMC, Epe, would include advanced paediatric care, neonatal intensive care units, medical ICU, and specialised surgical services.
“The introduction of these specialised services means that our people won’t have to travel far for treatments. This is a major leap for our community,” he said.
He also lauded the governments for approving the School of Nursing and the Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine which would be situated near the new FMC.
“The School of Nursing and FEDCAM will create opportunities for our youths to train in various medical fields, including alternative medicine. This will empower our young people and help address the shortage of healthcare professionals in our area,” Mr Muibi said.
He said that some courses at FEDCAM were expected to include acupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, chiropractic medicine, and herbal medicine, with students undertaking their clinical postings at the FMC.
Mr Muibi urged the people of Epe to take full advantage of the opportunities that the upgraded medical centre and the newly established institutions would bring.
“This initiative shows what can be achieved when both state and federal governments collaborate. The youth are ready to support this vision and help our community benefit from these new opportunities,” he said.
