The police on Thursday arraigned a security guard, Paul Eze,  before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, over alleged negligence to duty.

Mr Eze, 53, of Tasha 2 Gwa-gwa Abuja is standing trial on a charge,  bordering on negligent conduct.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that  the complainant, Victor Michael of Amazing Grace Pentecostal Church  Karmo , reported the case at the Karmo Police Station on February 8.

Ms Nwachukwu alleged that the defendant was employed as a security guard in the church, to safeguard and secure their property but that he neglected his duty post for no reason.

According to Ms Nwachukwu, the defendant dishonestly neglected his duty post, which paved the  way for  unknown persons to gain access into the church premises.

She said that the unknown persons made away with the church property including one standing fan, 49 plastic chairs, two big generators, one stabilizer, two amplifier and three shovels all valued N1.8 million.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, it was discovered that there were no breaking on the wall, doors and windows yet the property were missing.

She alleged that the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of the missing property.

Ms Nwachukwu said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 196 the Penal Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until April 8, for hearing.
