Gunmen kidnap Abia varsity deputy vice-chancellor

The Abia Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Godwin Emezue, the deputy vice-chancellor of the Abia State University, Uturu, by hoodlums.
The command confirmed the incident in a statement in Umuahia by its spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, on Saturday.
Ms Chinaka explained that Mr Emezue was abducted in his vehicle and in the company of his wife at about 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
According to Ms Chinaka, the incident occurred while he was buying petrol at a service station in Umuekwu Amachara, near Umuahia.
“The hoodlums confiscated his wife’s ATM card, dragged him into a Lexus SUV and drove away with him,” Ms Chinaka said.
The police spokesperson said the command had deployed resources and assets to rescue the victim.
“We urge Abia people to remain calm and continue their legitimate activities while maintaining vigilance and being security conscious.
“Furthermore, we seek the cooperation of the public, especially by way of providing any useful information that could be helpful in these particular circumstances and in attaining enhanced security in the state, generally,” she added.
