Gunmen kill 10, free 24 inmates in Mexico prison invasion
At least 24 inmates have escaped from prison situated in a northern Mexico border town, Ciudad Juárez, after gunmen suspected to be members of a drug cartel attacked the facility on Monday.
The attack, which happened in the early hours of Monday (Mexican time), left 10 people dead, including four inmates and prison wardens, according to the BBC.
Witnesses said the attacks were brutal as they shot at every moving vehicle and were more equipped than the police.
Before the attack, internal fights within various criminal gangs and cartels in prison had 13 inmates injured, with four being treated at the hospital.
Authorities have also involved the military and the national guard in supporting the prison keepers and local police towards strengthening security within and around the prison.
