Gunmen on Tuesday reportedly killed five miners at a mining site in Gero village, Gyel District of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State.

In a statement to the Peoples Gazette, Rwang Tengwong, the spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), said the incident occurred hours after gunmen attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in the village.

“This latest attack comes hours after terrorists attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, resulting in the death of three security personnel,” Mr Tengwong said.

According to the BYM spokesperson, the attacked village is located about five kilometres away from the NIPSS.

“This underscores the alarming deterioration of security within the area and raises serious concerns about the safety of residents and critical national institutions,” he said.

Alfred Alabo, the state police spokesperson, was not available for comment.

WhatsApp and SMS messages sent to him remained unanswered as of press time.

This comes barely an hour after Plateau State police said gunmen had killed three security agents at NIPSS in Kuru.
