Hamas-Israel reach agreement on ceasefire; Israeli hostages to be released

Hamas and Israel have reached an agreement to a ceasefire in Gaza.
This marks the first phase of negotiations mediated in Doha, Qatar.
Hamas will release 33 Israeli hostages, while Israel will also free Palestinians imprisoned in its facilities.
During the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, which sparked hostilities between Israel and Palestine, 33 Israelis were taken hostage.
In response, Israeli forces arrested and jailed hundreds of Palestinians, launching attacks on Gaza for months.
Amid the hostilities, Israeli forces have killed two Hamas leaders in quick succession.
