The duo of Oluwalade Phoebe and Momodu Veronica of the Ekiti Queens handball team have been selected to represent Nigeria at the 2025 African Women’s Youth Handball Championship.

Ayodeji Ogunsakin, spokesman for the Handball Association in Ekiti, disclosed this on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti. Mr Ogunsakin said the championship is scheduled to take place in Oran, Algeria, from September 14 to 21.

He said the two players were selected based on their outstanding skills and performance in handball competitions.

Mr Ogunsakin explained that Nigeria’s U-18 Women’s Handball team has undergone a thorough preparatory camp in Lagos ahead of the championship.

He said that the championship will serve as qualifiers for the 2026 Women’s Youth World Handball Championship, as well as the IHF Women’s Intercontinental Phase.

The Nigeria U-18 Handball team will depart the country for the championship on Thursday.

Nigeria will play in Group A, which consists of Angola, Tunisia, Kenya, the Benin Republic and Madagascar.
