Hijrah: NOA tasks Nigerians on unity, tolerance
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, compassion and resilience as Muslims mark the 1448 Islamic New Year, also known as Hijrah.
Hijrah is an Arabic word meaning “migration or emigration”.
It refers to the historical journey of Prophet Muhammad and his early followers from Makkah to Madina in 622 CE, to escape religious persecution.
The event marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The director of the agency, Ahmed Tijjani, said this on Tuesday in a message marking the Islamic New Year.
He described Hijrah as a season of reflection, sacrifice and renewal, saying it reminds citizens of the power of unity and trust in Allah.
“The Hijrah teaches us that new beginnings are possible through faith, patience and collective effort.
“At this time, Nigeria needs more unity, compassion and resilience from all of us,” he said.
Mr Tijjani enjoined Nigerians to use the new year to promote tolerance, forgive one another and contribute to national development.
He also prayed for wisdom for leaders, peace for citizens and prosperity for families.
“Eid Hijrah Mubarak to all Muslims. May 1448 AH be a year of greater progress, security and abundance for every Nigerian,” Mr Ibrahim said.
