The Kano State Hisbah Board has unveiled the timetable for the 2026 state-sponsored mass wedding programme, with activities scheduled to commence on Monday (today) and conclude on August 9.

The deputy commander-general of Hisbah, Mujahiddeen Aminuddeen, disclosed the schedule recently in Kano.

Mr Aminuddeen said the programme would begin with the distribution of wedding attire to all screened couples across the state.

He said beneficiaries in the 44 council areas were expected to collect their wedding attire from Hisbah offices in their respective local governments upon presentation of their screening tickets.

According to him, couples residing within the Kano metropolitan area are to collect their wedding attire from the Kano State Hisbah Board Headquarters from 10:00 a.m.

He further disclosed that a pre-marital seminar for all participating couples would be held on Thursday at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.

The deputy commander-general said the seminar would focus on marital responsibilities in accordance with Islamic teachings and provide training on small-scale businesses to equip the couples with entrepreneurial skills and promote self-reliance after marriage.

Mr Aminuddeen said the wedding solemnisation (Fatiha) for couples under the Rano, Gaya and Karaye Emirates would take place on Saturday, with the respective Emirs presiding over the ceremonies.

He, however, said the date for couples under the Kano Emirate would be announced later after a final screening exercise at the Kano State Hisbah Board Headquarters.

He added that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf would host a special reception for the newly married couples at the Government House after the wedding ceremonies.

According to him, furniture, household utensils and other items provided under the state government’s mass wedding programme would be displayed during the reception before being distributed to the beneficiaries.

He said the governor would also address the couples, while beneficiaries from previous editions of the programme would share their experiences to demonstrate the initiative’s impact and success.

Aminuddeen said the week-long programme would be concluded on Sunday, Aug. 9, when each of the 44 local government areas would organise receptions for their newly married couples.

The Kano government has consistently sponsored an annual mass wedding programme as part of efforts to support less-privileged couples, strengthen family values and promote social welfare across the state.
