Abuja-based HotCoal Ballers on Sunday recorded their second win of the ongoing 2022 Mark ‘D’ Ball Men’s Basketball Championship by trouncing Novena Heartlanders 100-56 in an enthralling game.

Both sides had contrasting results on Friday when they began their round of 16 campaign in the championship at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

While the HotCoal Ballers defeated APA Flames 80-50, the Heartlanders from Imo lost to Nigeria Customs 75-86.

This time on day two, NVH started the first quarter to lead 10-7, before HCB showed their superiority by dominating the game to win the first quarter 26-15.

They maintained a 45-32 lead by the end of the second quarter, with the third quarter ending 72-45 and 100-56.

Precious Salihu ran the show for HCB as he scored 17 points, combining well with Onyebuchi Nwawu who also garnered 11 points, nine rebounds and two assists.

In other matches played on Sunday, FCT HardRockers beat Suleja Bulldogs 80-71.

NSCDC Defenders also defeated Kwara Falcons 66-56.

Teams participating in the event include Mo’ Heat, Gombe Bulls, HotCoal Ballers, Nile University and Spartans from ‘phase 1 group 1’.

Also participating are Nigeria Customs, FCT Hardrockers, Kwara Falcons, Suleja Bulldogs and NSCDC Civil Defenders who qualified from ‘phase 1 group 2’.

Kano Pillars, Delta Force, Kada Stars, Novena Heartlanders, Police Baton and Bayelsa Waves also qualified for the competition from ‘phase 1 group 3’.

The round of 16 competition, tagged ‘Sweet 16’, began on Friday and is expected to end on Tuesday.
