Hyundai suspends sponsorship with Chelsea amid Abramovich sanctions

Another Chelsea sponsor, Hyundai, suspended their deal with the club, following the UK government sanctions against the owner, Roman Abramovich.
Hyundai, which became Chelsea’s “official global automotive partner” in 2018, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
“Hyundai has become one of the strongest partners in football over the years and the company supports the sport to be a force for good, the statement reads in part.
“Through our partnership with Chelsea FC, we are proud supporters of the players, the fans and grassroots football.
“However, in the current circumstances, we have taken the decision to suspend our marketing and communication activities with the Club until further notice,” the statement added.
British authorities Thursday announced sanctions against Mr Abramovich over his alleged ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Following the freezing of the London club’s assets by the UK government on Thursday, Chelsea jersey sponsor Three suspended its partnership with the club.
The English Premier League board on Saturday also disqualified Mr Abramovich as a director at Chelsea.
