Pope Leo XIV told journalists on Monday morning that he was unafraid of President Donald Trump’s administration, hours after the U.S. leader slammed the pontiff on Truth Social.

While speaking aboard a flight to Algeria, the pope said, “I have no fear of the Trump administration, or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do.”

Asked directly about Mr Trump’s comments criticising him on Truth Social, the Catholic pope said, “It’s ironic — the name of the site itself. Say no more.”

Earlier on Sunday, the pontiff implored leaders to end ongoing bloodshed around the world, condemning what he described as a “delusion of omnipotence”.

Following that, Mr Trump in a post on Truth Social on Sunday night, slamming the pope over his criticism of U.S. attacks on Iran and Venezuela, describing the pontiff as “weak on crime, and terrible for foreign policy”.
