“I killed mum for refusing to bathe me,” 30-year-old man tells court

A 30-year-old man, Ofobuike Damian, has appeared before an Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court 2 for allegedly stabbing his aged mother to death over her refusal to bathe him.
Damian, whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of murder, to which he pleaded guilty.
The Prosecutor, David Njoku, Senior State Council told the court that Damian committed the offences on March 19, at Ohatekwe, Ukawu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
Mr NJoku said the defendant caused the death of his mother, Onyema Damian, by stabbing her in the back with a knife.
He noted that the offence was punishable under Section 319 of the criminal code cap 33 vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State, 2009.
The defendant, who had no legal representation, told the court that he killed his mother for refusing to bathe him.
“I don’t know what really happened, but I can remember that I killed her over her refusal to bathe me,” he told the court.
The Chief Magistrate, Chinedu Agama, ordered the remand of the defendant in a correctional centre for lack of jurisdiction to entertain the case.
Agama, who ordered that the case file and exhibits be forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution for advice, adjourned the matter until April 9, for mention (NAN)
