I presented 47 motions, executed 140 projects in three years, says Kano senator

A lawmaker representing the All Progressives Congress (APC-Kano South) in the Senate, Suleiman Kawu-Sumaila, has said he presented over 47 motions on issues concerning his constituency in the last three years.
He made the disclosure at a press conference on the review of the 2023 Kano South campaign promises ahead of the 2027 elections.
The conference was organised by his office, in collaboration with the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Mr Kawu-Sumaila recalled his promises to the electorate to focus on health, education, water for irrigation, and agriculture.
“I pledged to be the voice of the voiceless and advance the interest of this senatorial district at the Senate. Today, I present to you results on that, we are focusing on issues-based campaigns, track record and strategic vision rather than personal attack,” he said.
Mr Kawu-Sumaila noted that his constituency comprised 16 local governments, 171 political wards with approximately six million population.
Nooting that accountability, transparency and feedback are bedrock of democratic governance, the senator urged the media for patience and fairness in their reports.
Mr Kawu-Sumaila said that the 47 motions moved by him in the Senate involved Kano South Security, motion to revoke the concession of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, local government autonomy, and backing the resolution of constituency projects.
Others were a motion to reopen the Nigeria-Niger border, creation of Tiga State, motion to investigate suspected budget padding and multiple overlapping budgets, and on the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBIAS), among others.
He said he was able to execute 140 different constituency projects covering the sectors during the period under review.
He further said that the feat was achieved through collaboration, synergy and support from other stakeholders.
Mr Kawu-Sumaila particularly commended President Bola Tinubu, National Assembly leadership, and the support from his colleagues such as the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin.
He pointed out that all he presented were real and visible, and ready for debate by anyone doubting them.
Mr Kawu-Sumaila is seeking re-election under the APC.
