President Bola Tinubu has said he has no religious bias and will not be a Muslim bigot because issues confronting the country affect everyone regardless of their religions.

Mr Tinubu, a Muslim who contested presidency alongside another Muslim Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2023 and won, spoke when he hosted a delegation of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria at the Villa on Friday.

He said, “This insecurity, everyone is affected, Christians, Muslims alike. I have no religious bias; I won’t be a bigot. My wife is a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.’’

The president said Nigeria must develop beyond divisive religious bigotry, adding that he was open to discussion with people of other faiths.

He stated, “We have to think of our country; this country must develop and must stand beyond religious bigotry.  And I’m here open to you, ready to listen.”
