Pat Utomi, a political economist, has said he will not support his political ally, former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, if he decides to run as a vice presidential candidate to another person in the next election.

Mr Utomi said this during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday.

“I can tell you that Peter Obi will contest for the presidency. The day he becomes somebody’s vice president, I walk away from his corner. I can tell you that for a fact,” Mr Utomi said.

Mr Utomi insisted that the Nigerian presidency should not be a retirement plan for old politicians, who end up using state funds to take care of their medical bills, adding, “Nobody above the age of 70 should contest for executive positions, whether as a governor or president.”

Mr Utomi’s statement comes barely a day after Mr Obi joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

As a member of the ADC coalition, Mr Obi will contest party primaries for the presidential ticket against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor and minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who have both indicated interest in running for the party’s nomination.
