A 40-year-old car dealer, Adesoji Toluwani, who allegedly defrauded a customer of N25 million appeared on Tuesday before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Toluwani, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Funmilayo Ige, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 25, 2025 at Elebu-Oja area of Ibadan.

Ige said that the defendant collected the N25 million from the complainant, Busari Rasaq, to purchase a fairly-used RX 350 Lexus SUV 2017 for him, but failed to do so.

She said that the defendant fraudulently converted the money to his personal use.

According to her, the offences contravene Sections 383 and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Defence Counsel, Akinkunmi Adekola, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.

The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5 million, with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi ordered that one of the sureties must own a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction, while the other surety must be related to the defendant.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case till October 29 for mention.
