Ibadan court grants herdsman found with live ammunition bail

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan has admitted a 19-year-old herder, Umaru Mohammed to bail after he was charged for unlawfully being in possession of 16 rounds of live ammunition.

Magistrate T. B. Oyekanmi, on Wednesday granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The police had charged Mr Umaru of undisclosed address on one-count of alleged unlawful possession of live ammunition.

Prosecution counsel Oluyemi Eyiaromi, told the court that Mr Umaru on July 13, at about 9:00 a.m. in Ojoo area of Ibadan, had in his possession, 16 rounds of live ammunition unlawfully.

Mr Eyiaromi alleged that the defendant could not give satisfactory account of the ammunition and had intent to use it to commit a felony within the Ojoo area.

He said the offence contravened Section 417 (d) of the Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Oyekanmi adjourned the matter until September 8, for hearing.
