Ibadan man arraigned for allegedly impersonating auto mechanic

A 35-year-old man, Taiwo Adewumi, was arraigned on Tuesday before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly impersonating an employee of an automobile repair company.
Mr Adewumi, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of impersonation brought against him.
Consequently, the magistrate, O. O. Latunji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Latunji added that each surety must provide valid identification.
She, thereafter, adjourned the suit until August 18 for trial.
The prosecutor, Oluseye Akinola, earlier informed the court that the defendant committed the crime sometime in June on the premises of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
Mr Akinola said the defendant allegedly impersonated an auto mechanic to the complainant, Gbenga Stephen, who entrusted him with his car for repairs.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant disappeared with the car before he was later arrested.
The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38, Vol. II, Law of Oyo State 2000.
