The police command in Oyo state says it has arrested two suspects connected to the murder of a 62-year-old woman at Ori-Apata, Oderemi area of Ido LGA, Ibadan.

The command’s spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement on Friday.

The deceased’s body was found in a bush on Wednesday.

She was reported to have gone to gather vegetables when she was accosted, assaulted and killed.

Mr Olayinka said a good Samaritan discovered the woman’s remains in the bush within the community and reported it to the police.

“We immediately deployed our personnel to the scene, where the lifeless body of the woman was found in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck.

“Findings by our detectives revealed that the corpse had been at the location for at least seven days prior to its discovery. Investigations conducted by the police led to the arrest of the two suspects,” said the spokesman.

According to him, the suspects are in the custody of the state CID and are assisting with ongoing investigations, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend any other accomplices.

Mr Olayinka said that the killing initially triggered protests by aggrieved family members and sympathisers in the community.

He, however, said the situation was brought under control through the timely intervention of the divisional police officer, Ido Division, in collaboration with the council’s management.

Meanwhile, police commissioner Femi Haruna has ordered the deployment of officers to maintain order in the area.
