The police have arraigned a site engineer, Ekweanwa Victor, 32, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday over an alleged fraud of N10 million.

The defendant of undisclosed address was charged on three counts: conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, and cheating, which he pleaded not guilty to.

The prosecutor, Sikiru Ibrahim, told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired with others at large to commit the act of fraud.

Mr Ibrahim alleged that the defendant, on September 10, at about 7:25 a.m., obtained through false pretence an iron rod valued at N10 million from one B. Bayo Continental Ventures.

He said that the site owner ordered an iron rod from the company, asking the site engineer to confirm it and send money to pay the iron supplier.

Mr Ibrahim also alleged that the defendant fraudulently tricked, deceived and collected the iron rod from B. Bayo Continental Ventures, claiming to have paid, but transferred the money to another person’s account.

He said that the offence was committed at Lakun village, Zone 4, opposite Owode Housing Estate, Ibadan.

Mr Ibrahim said that the matter contravened Sections 419, 421 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The defence counsel, Tosin Ige, asked for the defendant’s bail in the most liberal terms.

The magistrate, M. Mudashiru, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Mudashiru said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

He, thereafter, adjourned the matter until September 23 for hearing.
