The police on Wednesday arraigned a 46-year-old woman, Maria Ajimosun, before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for stealing.

The defendant was accused of stealing a vehicle and N5.5 million belonging to her late sister and her husband. She is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing. She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Olapeju Durodola, told the court that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit the offence sometime in March 2025.

Mr Durodola alleged that after the death of her sister, Esther Adesiyan, the defendant stole the deceased’s ATM card and withdrew N5.5 million from her GTB account, which she converted to her own use.

He also alleged that the defendant stole a Lexus RX350 SUV valued at N16 million, a GTB ATM card, and a First Bank ATM card, all from her late sister’s house.
The property belonged to Michael Adesiyan, the deceased’s husband, the court heard. The prosecutor said that the defendant was eventually arrested by the police.

The offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 383, 390(9), and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The chief magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail of N25 million with two sureties in like sum.

Ms Ogunkanmi held that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

She adjourned the case until March 23 for a hearing.
