ICC fires top prosecutor Karim Khan over sexual misconduct

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has fired its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, over a sexual misconduct scandal.
The dismissal of Mr Khan, who was suspended in early June to allow an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against him, was announced in a statement by the ICC on Friday.
“The Assembly adopted a decision, by secret ballot, by an absolute majority of 82 States Parties, finding that Mr. Karim Khan committed serious misconduct and serious breach of duty and removed him from office under article 46 of the Rome Statute,” ICC said.
It added, “The Presidency of the Assembly continues to call for due respect for the privacy and the rights of all parties concerned.”
Mr Khan, 56, a prominent British lawyer, has served as prosecutor of the ICC since 2021. The allegations of sexual misconduct against him first surfaced in 2024, but he denied any wrongdoing.
His dismissal comes barely a month after he was suspended and an investigation into the allegations of sexual misconduct against him was conducted by the ICC.
