Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer.

Mr Hundeyin takes over from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi — the outgoing FPRO — who announced the redeployment in a statement on Thursday from Force Headquarters, Abuja.

A graduate of English from the Lagos State University, Mr Hundeyin also holds a master’s in legal criminology and security psychology from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State. He obtained a certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State.

He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

The new police spokesperson has served in various capacities, including as Police Public Relations Officer at Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, and Administration Officer at the Force Public Relations Department in Abuja. He was also part of Nigeria’s contingent to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan (UNAMID) in 2020.

Until his latest appointment, Mr Hundeyin was the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command.

Mr Egbetokun urged him to bring his wealth of experience in communication and security management to strengthen the force’s public relations machinery and deepen engagement with citizens.

Mr Hundeyin’s appointment as FPRO followed the redeployment of Mr Adejobi to Delta State command as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations.

Mr Adejobi’s reassignment was approved by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, who said the move underscored confidence in the spokesman’s “wealth of experience, professionalism, and capacity to further strengthen operational strategies” at the state level.
