IHVN says institute aligning health interventions with national priorities

The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s health system by aligning its interventions with national health priorities.
Its head, Patrick Dakum, said this in a statement on Thursday. He also outlined the organisation’s institutional vision, focus, and evolving role in strengthening health outcomes across the country.
According to Mr Dakum, IHVN remains committed to working closely with government institutions, development partners, and local communities to improve access to quality healthcare, strengthen service delivery, and support Nigeria’s broader health sector reforms.
“IHVN continues to evolve its approach to ensure that health interventions are responsive to the needs of Nigerians, while strengthening systems that can withstand current and future public health challenges,” Mr Dakum said.
The IHVN boss noted that the organisation’s work aligns with national health priorities and global best practices, with a strong focus on sustainability, innovation and capacity building across the health system.
Mr Dakum explained that over the years, IHVN has played a critical role in supporting Nigeria’s response to infectious diseases, health workforce development, laboratory strengthening, and research, while also expanding into non-communicable diseases and broader health systems support.
The IHVN boss noted that partnerships remain central to the organisation’s operations, adding that collaboration with federal and state governments, donors, and implementing partners will continue to drive impactful health outcomes.
Mr Dakum added that IHVN’s strategic direction was focused on accountability, institutional growth, and long-term impact, as Nigeria works toward universal health coverage and improved health indicators.
Mr Dakum said the organisation’s evolving strategy was designed to ensure that health interventions are not only technically sound, but also relevant to the everyday realities of Nigerians across different regions.
He noted that the organisation would continue to prioritise improved access to quality healthcare, stronger service delivery systems and targeted interventions for HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, cancer and other emerging public health challenges.
