The chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Wasiu Adesina, on Tuesday urged staff to be diligent, dedicated and redouble their efforts towards achieving the council’s goals.

Mr Adesina made the plea during the 2025 Annual Inter-Denominational Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the council secretariat in Ikorodu.

Mr Adesina said there was a need for members of staff to be dedicated to duty to ensure the delivery of more dividends of democracy to the people of the council area.

He said, “The significance of the prayers initiated since I was elected as chairman is to commit all our doings in the year into the hand of God. We believe that year 2025 will be a prosperous year for everyone.’’

Mr Adesina promised to purchase a staff bus that would ply the Ketu-Ikorodu route to ease the movement of workers, especially those transferred from other councils.

He also promised to improve staff welfare to boost their morale and promote productivity.

The council boss thanked President Bola Tinubu for championing autonomy for local government, saying the idea would promote grass-roots development.

He also thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support for the autonomy of local councils.

Mr Adesina urged other governors to emulate Mr Sanwo-Olu by giving the necessary support to the councils in their respective states.

He said, “I appreciate our governor because the autonomy is working in Lagos already; our money is released to us promptly.’’

In his welcome address, President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees Ikorodu chapter, Kazeem Adebambo, expressed gratitude to the chairman for the council’s welfare package for staff during the yuletide and urged him to do more.
