A federal lawmaker, Eugene Dibiagwu (APC–Imo), has promised to deliver more democracy dividends to his constituents if re-elected in 2027.

Mr Dibiagwu, who represents the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru West federal constituency in the House of Representatives, said this in Abuja on Tuesday when he received the members of the Izombe Central Union, Abuja branch.

Members of the union visited Mr Dibiagwu to donate campaign materials, including branded caps and T-shirts, in support of his second-term campaign. Mr Dibiagwu said he appreciated the gesture, as the donation served as a tonic to do more for his people.

“I want to assure you that I will not disappoint you people, if re-elected. I will continue to keep the flag flying. My going back is a call for more dividends of democracy to the good people of our federal constituency,” he said.

He thanked the group for the donation, describing it as an uncommon blend of love and political ambition.

“Your gift is a demonstration that this project is not mine alone, but a collective project for the entire people of Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta and Oru West federal constituency.

“I want to convey my unreserved gratitude and thanks to the people of Izome Central Union, Abuja Branch, for this show of concern and commitment to this project. It goes a long way to show that you realised why I am there and why I should go back to continue representing our constituency.

“What you are doing by the donation of these campaign materials, you are actually challenging me to do more. I see all this support coming from left, right and centre as a call for more duty,” he said.

Mr Dibieagwu assured the people that he would not disappoint them.

“There are so many things I would like to do as soon as I return for the second term. As we speak, different people are still bringing in materials to support my campaign rallies,” the lawmaker said.

Mr Dibiagwu said the support he had received testified to the people’s appreciation of his efforts as their representative at the National Assembly.

He said that after due diligence on his electoral fortune ahead of the January 16, 2027, exercise, he concluded that he would emerge victorious.

“Despite the possibility of my landslide victory, we are not leaving anything to chance. We are reaching out and will continue to reach out even though we know where we are at the grassroots. Rest assured that we are going to make you proud,” he said.

He charged the members of the ICU, Abuja branch, to ensure they return home during the election to vote as a further demonstration of their support for his re-election.

Mr Dibiagwu used the medium to advise the union leadership to continue unifying the people of Izombe in Abuja, assuring them he would continue to identify with the union as an illustrious son of the community.

Valentine Onwuka, president of the ICU Abuja branch, and Jude Ugochukwu-Fadas, a patron of the union, said in their separate speeches that the campaign materials were a token of support for Mr Dibiagwu’s bid for a second term.

Mr Ugochukwu-Fadas told the lawmaker that the quantity of the materials presented to him did not matter; it was the intention behind the gift that mattered most. He commended Mr Dibiagwu for his quality representation during his first tenure, saying the constituency witnessed impactful projects across the three local government areas that constitute the constituency.

“We want to place it on record that you have been fair in the distribution of projects and opportunities that accrued to your office since 2023. Our prayer is for God to continue to shield and lead you to victory during the next election,” he said.
