‘I’m bigger than your father, Fela,’ Wizkid tells Seun Kuti

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Wizkid on Tuesday declared that he is “bigger than” Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Wizkid said this on his Instagram Story in response to criticism from Seun Kuti, the son of the late Fela.
“Pussy boy @bigbirdkuti, ok, I big pass your papa,” Wizkid said in his first public response to days of criticism by Kuti over comparisons between him and Fela.
He added, “Wetin u one do? Fool at 40! @bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz, every day bigger than your papa!! Wetin u one do fool?”
The “Ojuelegba” crooner, who had remained silent, shared a viral video of a woman criticising Kuti, before posting a string of direct messages aimed at the musician.
Kuti responded to Wizkid’s post, saying, “Just be yourself, short man. You are also great.”
Noticing that Wizkid had deleted the post, he said, “U go delete now, u no get mind. Who is the pussy now, beech!!!”
The dispute began on January 10 when Kuti went live on Instagram to caution Wizkid’s fans against referring to the singer as the “New Fela,” describing the comparison as “disrespectful” and “ignorant.”
“Keep Fela’s name out of your mouths… You try to claim this your artiste is the new Fela… the shoes are too big to fill,” Kuti said.
The disagreement later expanded into a dispute over the nickname “Big Bird,” after a fan asked Kuti to stop using it, arguing that Wizkid is popularly known as the “Biggest Bird.”
Kuti accused Wizkid of taking the name and, during the same exchange, said he recently received $120,000 simply for being Fela’s son.
He also said he was not using Wizkid’s name for attention, listing his recent international performances and insisting he did not need “clout” from a pop star.
Wizkid has in the past publicly described Fela as his greatest musical influence and has a tattoo of the Afrobeat legend.
