I’m eager to return to my cows in 2023: Buhari

Mr Buhari has always publicised his ranch consisting of about 150 cows as his only venture since pulling out of the military nearly four decades ago.

President Muhammadu Buhari says he is eager to return to take charge of his farm after his tenure elapses in 2023.

Mr Buhari, who is currently in Turkey, made this statement in a post on Facebook page while commenting on a birthday bash organised for him on Friday.

He clocked 79.

“I look forward to 2023 when I finish my tenure, to go home to take charge of my farm,” Mr Buhari said.

“Between now and that time, I will do the best that is possible to advance the interest of the nation and its people, and carry out my duties as prescribed by the Constitution,” he added.

Then-opposition candidate, Mr Buhari rode into office in 2015 with loud promises to tackle the fledgling Boko Haram insurgency, improve the economy and kill corruption that had become endemic in the Nigerian system.

The promises has since chiefly remained a mirage as the country has churned out some of the world’s worst indices in national development.

The insurgent activities then predominantly in the North-East has transcended into other parts of the North in the name of banditry.

Nigeria has twice falling into recession since Mr Buhari’s second coming to power, with the country declared world’s poverty in 2020. Youth unemployment also rose to record-high 33 per cent.

The regime’s anti-corruption drive has also been tainted with sectionalism with anti-graft bodies moving swiftly on opposition figures while looking away from corruption allegations of pro-government actors. Peoples Gazette reported how a major Buhari ally, Isa Funtua received questionable shell out from the country’s tax collector, FIRS.

Mr Buhari has always publicised his ranch consisting of about 150 cows as his only venture since pulling out of the military nearly four decades ago.

Last December, during a holiday at his Daura countryhome in Katsina, Mr Buhari preferred time with his cows as bandits abducted hundreds of schoolchildren from a government school in Kankara.

The president instead sent a delegation from Abuja to the troubled community.
