Imo assembly lauds state govt, NDDC over Mbaitoli road rehabilitation

The Imo House of Assembly has commended the state government’s collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) towards the rehabilitation of the Ukwu Orji-Nwaorieubi Road in Mbaitoli Local Government Area (LGA).
The commendation formed part of the assembly’s resolutions at Tuesday’s plenary session.
The commendation followed a motion presented by the lawmaker representing Mbaitoli, Innocent Ikpamezie.
In the motion, Mr Ikpamezie said that the road had been in a deplorable condition for many years, causing intense hardship to motorists, residents, commuters, traders, farmers and students, who ply the road daily.
He recalled that the house had earlier considered and adopted a motion drawing the government’s attention to the dilapidation and urging its intervention.
He described the state government’s response as a demonstration of “responsive and people-focused leadership. ”
He stated that the ongoing construction already eased transportation in the area, improved access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities, enhanced commercial activities and brought visible relief to the affected communities.
Mr Ikpamezie, therefore, urged the house to commend and appreciate the governor “for his proactive, responsive and visionary leadership” in addressing the infrastructural needs of Mbaitoli LGA.
He further urged the house to also acknowledge and commend the state government’s collaboration with NDDC “to ensure the successful commencement of the first phase of the project.”
He also prayed the house to encourage the state government, NDDC and other relevant agencies to ensure timely completion of the project to the highest standard to stand the test of time.
Supporting the motion, Johnleoba Iheoha (Ikeduru constituency) commended the governor for his prompt response, saying that the rehabilitation of the road would end traffic congestion in the LGA and Owerri, the state capital.
Contributing, Uche Agabige (Orsu constituency), commended the governor and urged the house to support him in his effort to further transform the state before the end of his tenure
Also, Henry Agbasonu (Ezinihitte constituency) said that the governor demonstrated “administrative professionalism,” especially in the area of infrastructure development.
He recalled that the house in its early days made several calls for road rehabilitation, saying that the governor had “over delivered.”
Following similar votes in support of the motion, the Speaker, Chike Olemgbe, directed the clerk, Chinelo Emeghara, to convey the resolution to the governor, NDDC, and other relevant agencies.
