Imo: Isiala-Mbano LG council sank 20 boreholes in one year, says chairman

The chairman of Isiala-Mbano LGA in Imo, Chika Okoroike, said the council sank 20 boreholes and completed 15 other projects in 2025.
Mr Okoroike disclosed this in his office at the council headquarters in Umuelemai. He said the council started nine other projects that same year which are nearing completion.
Mr Okoroike took office on September 30, 2024. He listed completed projects, including an ICT centre and a hybrid regeneration farm settlement with over 1,000 bunches of improved 4:1:9 cassava stems.
He said the council also distributed all-season okra and maize seedlings across the Osuh, Ugiri and Mbama wards.
Mr Okoroike said the council also rehabilitated a Songhai farm with over 500 hybrid plantain suckers and installed CCTV cameras at the council headquarters for enhanced security.
He said the council sponsored the enrolment of 3,000 Isiala-Mbano indigenes in the state’s health insurance scheme at a cost of N48 million.
He explained that the council also sponsored 250 local youths in digital skill training, undertook rural road rehabilitation during the Yuletide, and reconstructed the Umuelemai Divisional Police Station.
The chairman said the council was currently constructing a rice mill at Ugiri Oka, reconstructing an NYSC lodge, and rehabilitating the council secretariat.
He also identified other ongoing projects, including a feed factory, an ultramodern poultry farm at Oboh ward, a police observation tower at the Umuelemai Police Station and the popular Nkwo-Mbaa Ugiri gully erosion control.
“The LGA autonomy has come to stay. It is a blessing, and we will not sleep on duty,” he said.
He also thanked Governor Hope Uzodimma for providing the enabling environment and services necessary for smooth local government administration in Imo.
