Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful that the challenges facing the country will lead to a brighter future.

Mr Sanwo-Olu made the call during a special Jumaat service to mark Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary on Friday at the Lagos State Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja.

The governor was represented by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.

He acknowledged that the country was grappling with economic hardship and security issues but said that the challenges were part of the nation’s journey to progress.

“Humanity has not found out how to solve a lot of problems without pain. As humans, we work on principles, especially in economics, and we must operate within those principles,” he said.

Mr Sanwo-Olu urged Nigerians to reduce negative comments about the country, embrace constructive criticisms  and proffer practical solutions.

“For example, concerns about the standard of education should come with practical suggestions that can help to move the nation forward,” he said.

Reflecting on the anniversary, the governor said it was a reminder of the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers and others who worked for a united and prosperous nation.

He said that their commitment to harmony and peace continued to foster progress.

Mr Sanwo-Olu also urged the citizens to be catalysts for positive change, advocate justice and promote peace.

He urged them to use technology responsibly.

He advised parents to guide their children in using Artificial Intelligence and ensure that technology would not erode family and moral values.

“We must get better. The way we teach our children must change. It is essential to train them to use AI positively,” he said.

In a sermon, Imam Shakiru Gafar urged leaders to be accountable and govern with justice.

He also urged Nigerians to live responsibly and righteously.

Olabode Agoro, Lagos State Head of Service, represented by AbdulHafiz Toriola, the permanent secretary in the state ministry of housing, encouraged Nigerians to keep faith in the country and continue to pray for its progress.
