The Dr Yusuf John-Suberu Foundation, a non-profit organisation, has called on Nigerians to unite in prayer for national cohesion and progress as Nigeria celebrates its 64th independence.

The executive director of the foundation, Yusuf Suberu, made the call in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja in commemoration of the Independence Day celebration and the economic hardship bedevilling Nigerians.

Mr Suberu also called for continuous prayer for an indivisible Nigeria, emphasising the need for Nigerians to put aside their differences and come together to pray for the nation’s unity, peace, and development.

He added that Nigerians, especially youths, also needed to be committed to the promotion of a true democracy that would increase more participation at the decision table and where their rights were treated as human rights.

“We must recognise that our diversity is our strength, and our unity is our greatest asset.

“Though the country is currently experiencing various challenges with the masses bearing the brunt of the effects, but as patriotic Nigerians, we should continue to pray for an indivisible Nigeria.

“As we celebrate this milestone, let us pray for leaders who will prioritise the welfare of citizens, promote justice, and ensure equality for all,” he said.

The NGO boss also stressed the importance of collective action in addressing the country’s challenges, including insecurity, economic hardship, and social injustice.

Mr Suberu, who doubled as the national coordinator, FCT squadron leader, Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) mayors of the federation, expressed optimism that despite the challenges affecting the nation, the country would rise again through the sacrifices, doggedness and prayers of all.

“Nigerians must work together to build a nation where everyone has access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to create a better Nigeria.

“In all aspects of national development, even when hope is lost, we should continue to bridge the gap by projecting a positive image of our country.

“Nigeria remains a great country with rich human and natural resources that gives it that unique pride of place in the Committee of Nations,” he said.

The NGO boss commended Nigerians for their resilience and determination in the face of adversity, urging them to continue working towards a brighter future.

Mr Suberu praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, emphasising its transformative impact on Nigerians’ lives and fostering a renewed sense of hope and national unity.
