INEC monitors Wike-backed PDP convention

Observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission are present at the ongoing 2026 national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The faction loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, is holding the convention at the Velodrome of the Mashood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja amid crisis rocking the party.
At the venue to observe the process are two INEC National Commissioners, Sani Adams and Ken Ukeagu.
Also in attendance are Director of Election and Party Monitoring, Joan Arabs, Director Legal, Rakiya Nauzo and Director Drafting and Clearance, Nkechi Abuh.
Others INEC representatives include Mustapha Abubakar, Deputy Director Party Legal and Liaison, Mas’ud Hassan, Rakiya Dattijo, Umar Hassan and Babangida Shanu.
Mr Wike-backed faction is organising the convention expected to see the return of Abdulrahman Mohammed as the party’s national.
Over 2500 delegates from across the 36 states of the country were mobilised for the exercise.
The minister earlier stated that the convention would show Nigerians that the opposition was still viable and alive, urging delegates to conduct themselves and support the efforts of the convention committees.
