INEC presents certificate of return to Kwara member-elect

The Kwara resident electoral commissioner, Muhammed Abubakar, performed his first official duty by presenting the certificate of return to a member-elect, Yusuf Musa.
Mr Musa was elected to represent the people of the Odo-Ogun/Oyun constituency in the Oyun LGA of Kwara.
Presenting the certificate, Mr Abubakar said a petition was filed against the return of Mr Afolabi Otunba of Peoples Democratic Party by Mr Musa at the National and State Houses of Assembly Tribunal in Ilorin.
“The tribunal dismissed the petition, and the petitioner (Mr Musa), dissatisfied with the decision of the tribunal, filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal,” said Mr Abubakar.
He added, “On the 28th November 2023, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja allowed the appeal and declared the third respondent (Afolabi Otunba) of PDP not qualified, for being in breach of sections 106 and 107 of the Constitution and ordered the first respondent (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to him and issue another to the Appellant (Yusuf Musa) of APC.”
Mr Musa later told journalists that he was confident of justice, pledging to represent his constituents with diligence and attract development to the area.
