A report by internet’s observatory group NetBlocks has shown severe disruption of internet service on MTN network since the days-long #EndBadGovernance protests began across the country last Thursday.

“Network data show a disruption to leading internet provider MTN in #Nigeria; the incident may limit the visibility of #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests; the operator states it is working to resolve the issue,” NetBlocks posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Since protests started across several states in Nigeria on August 1, internet users, most especially MTN subscribers, have complained about sudden difficulties accessing the internet service providers, especially social media platforms.

Coincidentally, the data published by NetBlocks indicated internet connectivity on MTN dropping to as low as 40 per cent on the same day the demonstration started compared to not less than 80 per cent connectivity rate in the six days leading up to the exercise.

Meanwhile, the situation generated concerns among Nigerians that disruption of internet connectivity would limit visibility and the global reach of the ongoing protests.
