Governor Abba Yusuf has received the report of an investigative committee probing the alleged involvement of transport commissioner Ibrahim Namadi in the bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Danwawu. Mr Namadi was indicted for impropriety and violating the Kano government’s policy against drug trafficking. 

The panel’s findings were disclosed in a statement on Tuesday. The report was formally presented by the secretary to the state government, Umar  Ibrahim. 

“Voluntary Suretyship: The commissioner voluntarily applied to stand surety for the defendant on July 18, 2025. Affidavit of Means: He deposed to an affidavit confirming his position and pledged to comply with bail conditions. Awareness of Bail Requirements:;The commissioner understood the Court’s conditions for standing surety.

“Lack of Due Diligence:  He didn’t exercise adequate caution before standing surety for a defendant facing serious narcotics charges. Full Knowledge of Charges: The commissioner had constructive and actual knowledge of the drug-related charges. Violation of Government Policy: He was aware of the government’s firm stance against drug trafficking and abuse.

“No Prior Relationship: There was no evidence of prior acquaintance between the Commissioner and the defendant. No Financial or Material Inducement: No indication of financial benefit or incentives influencing the Commissioner’s action. No Bail Deposit by the commissioner: The commissioner didn’t deposit any sum for the bail; the claim was based on the defendant’s affidavit,” stated the panel’s report.

Mr Yusuf commended the committee’s professionalism, objectivity, and commitment to truth. He assured that the recommendations would be carefully reviewed and that appropriate action would be taken in accordance with due process and the public interest.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, justice, and discipline in public service, and its fight against drug-related crimes and social misconduct affecting Kano’s youths and society.
